This is one thing I did not know about chickens the amount of dust they can stir up OMG. I have Pine Bedding but they still manage to get a nice layer stirred up and on everything every single day UGH. This spring or summer when I clean out would there be any benefit to taking some of the dirt out and putting sand in and then the pine shavings. It wasn't so bad in the summer when they free ranged but this winter yuck

You're gonna get dust no matter what, I think. I have vinyl flooring in my coop, with 2-3 inches of wood shavings. I regularly have a fine layer of dust on everything in there. I'm looking forward to warmer weather and a good cleaning. But I do keep a little hand broom out there that I dust things down with every so often.

Well, ladies and gents, more power to you, but you know, I dust my house, at least once in a while, but I'll be fiddldydo if I'm going to dust my barn and chicken coop too!

I just had to laugh and shake my head when I read this and really hand it to those of you who go the extra lengths to care for your hens. I tell myself that our chicken digs are very well ventilated so the dust really doesn't matter. Who do you think I'm fooling? ~G BTW, this post is written in fun; please take it that way:) I just had a good laugh and wanted to share it.

I was kinda wondering WHAT exactly are you guys dusting???

I mean, I got a feeder and waterer that are changed/filled often enough to keep the dust knocked off, the roosts are too narrow and frequently used to collect much dust, and the nestbox is a 5 gal bucket - smooth round sufrace doesn't collect much dust anyway. Plus with all my venilation - Dust???? What's that???

This is a 60 year old coop with dirt floors that have been there for I don't know how long. I didn't get everything done before(thorough cleaning) moving my chickens out there because when they were 1 1/2 weeks I tore my ACL and was unable to do much all summer. This is not fine layer or dander I live on a farm it is dirt. OH well

LOL...it's funny, because I HATE dusting in my house for some reason. But I'll go out in the coop and dust the top of the nest box, the window ledges, the feed container, etc. But for me it's all part of my chicken therapy. I dive on bits of poo in the litter like some folks dive on four leaf clovers...lol.

I just dusted yesterday in my coop! Dust is never ending with chickens. Taking care of the chickens and their coop is relaxing for me, so I only dust if I want an excuse to be out there with the hens. I painted the inside of the coop tan, so I think I am the only one that really notices that it gets as dusty as it does.

I dust the coop constantly and I have loads of ventilation and 2 fans running constantly...don't even get me started on my house! I have 31 chicks/chickens in the house right now

That is an awesome idea! I am painting the inside of the coop this summer when the girls can be outside...tan is a great choice! And I have to agree, cleaning the coop is very relaxing for me. I look forward to my weekly deep cleaning.
