Dustbath Question

Mine just find a bare spot in the back yard when I take them out for a while. There's no loose dirt or anything as it's still damp, but they go for it like crazy.
This is my first flock since I was a kid and I was surprised.
Very amusing tho.

Mine are 2 months old and have a kitty-litter sized box of play sand in their run with them. They've only ever stood in it momentarily - they've never done a dust bath in it - LOL.

I put some sand into one of the litter boxes that they use for a dust bath and they don't like it so it's back to dirt, ashes, de and peat moss.

I did not know this was a daily ritual until someone helped me out on this forum! Thanks! It is a funny thing to watch!

My chickens found an old pile of ashes where I had burned some limbs and leaves and went nuts!!!

They formed a "line" and seemed to wait for the one in front of them to get done. Of courst if the one in front took to long, the next one would just get right in there with the other one. It was a real fun thing to watch.
