If someone you know has a wood heater get them to save you a bucket of their ashes. You need ash from hardwood trees like oak . Even bit of wood unburned by the fire are great for the birds. They peck on the charcoal, Remember this is hardwood ashes with unburned coals. Not the store bought charcoal. Good luck. gloria Jean
