We have been keeping chickens (Barred Rock and a few Guineas) for about a year and a half. I have tried wood shavings and straw for bedding. The dust from both of these seems phenomenal. Is normal? Any suggestions? Our coop is built into the back corner of our garage (very nice, by the way), and the dust permeates throughout the garage.

Our local feed store sells a product that I think is primarily used by folks who keep rabbits and guinea pigs. It looks exactly like the wood pellets people use in their pellet stoves, but it is not as compressed. It is absorbent and relatively cheap. This store uses it for their chicks too. You may want to look into that. NO dust, and 100% compostable when you are done!
