We have 4 dutch bantams, 2 5 week olds from Ideal, and 2 2 week olds we hatched ourselves. Of the 2 older guys, King Leo is much larger, with a more upright tail. Just assumed this was the male. Baby Binky was much smaller and very noisy. Well looking at them now, King leo has less coloration, and his hackel feathers appear to be more rounded. Baby Binky's are pointed and he/she is looking more colorful around the neck. Binky is a lot 40% smaller than Leo. Just wondering if anyone has raised Dutch Bantams... are the males this tiny?

As for my hatchlings, again, the smaller noisy one, Chibi, has been dubbed the pullet. We are assuming that the other, Calico is the cockeral. Guess time will tell with those 2!! They are really sweet little birds:)

It just really depends. The hatchery Dutch are very poor quality birds and are often crossed with Old English Game.
In most cases of hatchery Dutch, the Light Brown, and Cream Light Brown, the females will have a salmon or brownish colored breast. Males will have black. They might have called them BB Red, which is not right.
If you could post pics, I could tell you what is what for sure.

Or you can go to my website and see the pictures of my Dutch. Keep in mind though, yours might look alot different and its all due to mine are breeder and show stock.

Smoky offered some good advice, you may also want to check out the Dutch Bantam Society web site, they have excellent pictures and descriptions of the different colors. JB

Looks like a nice pair. A Cream Light Brown cockerel and a Light Brown pullet (or a BB red pullet by Ideals standards LOL).

Thanks Smoky.

Already at 3.5 weeks my breeder stock hatchlings look a lot different than these 2. The combs are already larger and redder. 2 Roosters!!
