True Dutch are worth the wait, don't settle for hatchery "Dutch", they are not pure Dutch!
None of the "Dutch" the hatcheries sell are from pure Dutch stock ,usually OEG are bred into thier version of dutch. Many of the hatcheries have fancy soundy variety names that are not even real Dutch color varieties.
Contact the Dutch society to try and find breeders. Many breeders of true Dutch don't sell eggs, chicks, or even youngsters, they hold on to them for 6 to 9 months before deciding which birds to sell. Their are many good breeders breeding true Dutch but they are not just pumping out quanities of birds to be sold as day old chicks or hatching eggs.
My daughter breeds and shows her Dutch, we have about 65 chicks
right now in the kitchen and probably will hatch out a bit more. She will raise them thru summer to determine who is best quality that she will retain for her own flock and who she will sell. Many of the quality birds will show and sell this fall.
She does not sell hatching eggs, many quality Dutch breeders do not. Not all chicks develop into a bird that meets breed standard, this is the case in any breed. Some chicks for whatever reason might have several breed faults and it would be best that they were sold just as "cute little bantams", rather than representing the Dutch breed. This is something that a breeder looses control over when selling hatching eggs.
All things that affect why True/Pure Dutch are a little harder to find than many other breeds. It is not because they are not a wonderful breed, which they indeed are!
