I hatched some lavender orpington eggs one week ago today. All from the same flock and set the exact same time. One of the chicks had a hard hatch, really didn't think she would make it but she did. She was teeny tiny, much smaller than the others. I thought she might catch up once she started eating but she hasnt. She's feisty and acts perfectly healthy, keeps up to the others just fine.
Is it possible shes a dwarf and will always be tiny?

I read that link and it states...

"Depending on the breed, most types of dwarfism in chickens begin to be recognized when the birds reach 8–10 weeks of age,[4][5] but classification is more precise when the chickens are five months old or more."

I'm just NOT a headline person and prefer looking closer at details.

I knew dwarfism IS POSSIBLE in chickens and never meant to discount the possibility. I do consider it unlikely and not the case in this chick. But never consider myself to be the end all of knowledge and hope to never stop learning! :pop

That did provide an interesting read.. and note Wiki is only as reliable as the contributors knowledge.. which means fallible.. using more than one resource is suggested. When it comes to animals Merck is one great resource..

They chick could have bad geneticts or if there is a bantam in the flock that could be possible to. Yes Wikipedia is not the best sorce to look at.
