Dyed Chicks

Pre-hatch, you inject the dye through the shell: http://chickscope.beckman.uiuc.edu/resources/egg_to_chick/coloring.html

Post hatching, you dip the chick in kool-aid (NOT its head!!!--that you could pour kool-aid over as long as you avoid the nostrils). If you use kool-aid, be SURE to keep the chicks warm throughout the entire process.

Sonoran silkies, how do we define the difference between "some" and "many" in regard to the sale of dyed chicks? It is illegal an parts or all of the following states: Md., NY, Ok., Conn., NJ, Tenn., RI, Ca., KY., Iowa, ohio, De., N. Dakota, NM, Ark., Vt., Wi., Mass., So. Car., La., Ill., N.C. 22 states seems like "many" to me. My source: duckrescuenetwork.org. This site lists actual legislations.

So what colour of dye shows on your black langshans?

The Langshans have yellow spots on their heads, bellies, wing tips and butts. Some even on their heads.

So...I'm "hoping" the dye will show up on the yellow parts, I'm doubtful the black will show any dye at all.

The blues...I'm thinking a pink or orange color..depending which way I'm feeling!

The whites...should show up with anything...maybe a bright green? The blues and the whites are hard to tell the difference between until they are completely fluffed up.

I tried banding them at hatch, forget it.

They kept falling off.

I actually just checked my incubator and one of my dyed eggs due tomorrow hatched. Its a Light Brahma. It looks alot brighter yellow in person. For breeders that need to keep track of lines at hatch, I think this would work pretty good. Its very easy to do.

It seems wrong to me to try and dye the eggs 11-14 days into incubation process and also the injection process.

I would do the koolaid way after born I guess....but not real excited about that either, so I will do none.
