Dyed Chicks

Food coloring, although I'm sure it's FDA approved, is still only mediocrely "healthy". I wouldn't put it on any chicks, or slather it on my body either

So are you saying that food coloring/dye isnt safe for us to ingest?
Huh,... interesting.. so when we eat,..say,.. pink cake frosting... its not safe?
Can you please post a link that states that food safe coloring is now NOT safe for us to eat??
I'd be interested in this info because if this indeed true... millions of people need to know about this.
This could be scary, indeed!!
Thanks! :)

when done proper no harm to the chick ,and last as long as about 4 to 5 weeks. just be carefull and not hit a vein , plus reseal the egg, done at about 14 days

Certain types of red food dye can cause harm...better food dyes have been created and no harm done. Remember those red M and M red candies being taken off?

I dont mind people dyeing their chicks or chickens as long they are not doing that to promote sales of Easter chicks. If they are your own, and love the colored effects, go for it!

I love one BYCer's pink Silkie for a wedding ceremony......cute! No harm were done. After all, you guys dye your poodles for fun?

Anyone ever use Bluekote? cannot get a much better dye than that. It is harmess with food coloring, that is what skin is for to protect the innards.

Ohio passed a law mim of 6 chick have to be sold to stop Easter chicks sales

Speaking of Easter Chick Sales . . . I thought the nightmare of parents buying little kids chicks was over for the year. I work at a Country store and we sell chicks. These people came in yesterday with 2 small children and bought some. The husband was very obnoxious. The wife and her friend were grabbing chicks and shoving them in their box. She says "I have six, is that enough?"The husband responds "if you buy 6 only 3 will live." I, of course, said they all would probably live. But no, apparently these are for the kids (who look to be 2and 3) and will be kept in a kiddie pool in the middle of the living room. They have done this before and the kids killed the chicks. How dumb and selfish are people? My coworker and manager were standing there or I would have told them to leave!

You will hear all kinds of things.

For several years I was hatching 2500 chicks a year (back when this thread was started) with people from all over the world watching them hatch live over the internet. I dyed about 200 in that time. It did not affect them at all. What it did effect is the number of emails I got with foul language in them. Most of which were from people that knew very little about chickens.
