Ok...confession time here. About a dozen years ago I went to this rabbit farm. I went quite regularly because I had a 10 foot columbian red tailed boa and well...he ate small rabbits. Anyway, I bought too many rabbits and one got extremely large in the holding pen so I took him back to the farm to see if she wanted him. The lady was so happy to have an adult male that when my daughter was looking at the little chicks running around she gave her 2! I live in city limits, what I was going to do with 2 chickens....I don't know! but the puppy dog eyes did me in and I said she could keep them. Well, I asked about feeding them and the lady told me cornmeal from the grocery store. As you can imagine they died within a month or so. This lady had a farm with a dozen breeding rabbits and twice as many chickens running around and that is what she said to feed them so I assumed it was correct. I'm sure lots of people get incorrect information when buying chicks at roadside stands and such.
Fast forward to now.....I place "wanted, your Easter chicks & ducks" ad's on craigslist a few weeks after the holiday. I always get calls and end up with some extra critters. They are not always what I want, but even if I rehome them with a farm or backyard flock they are much better off then getting dumped in the park or abandoned somewhere.
