Okay This will be our first Easter with our own backyard eggs from our brown laying RIR hens. I hate the thought of buying white eggs from the store. What do some of you do with your brown eggs. It wont be the same for the kids if we don't color eggs.

I dye our brown eggs for easter. I actually like the colors better on the brown eggs. They are a darker richer color than on the white eggs.

I did brown eggs dyed last year from a kit. The brown eggs don't dye as well as white eggs, and take longer to soak up the dye. I got a couple of really pretty ones but a couple of pretty horrific looking ones as well (puke green, anyone?) but got some good laughs out of it. If you can find some of the shrink wraps those are fun ... or stickers.

I'm going to dye our brown eggs this year too! Someone posted them last year, and they looked beautiful! I really can't see buying store bought eggs, when I have these beautiful fresh, brown ones here.

This isn't half of what we dyed, but notice the DARK purples, pinks, reds, greens, etc. Those were my brown eggs, the yellow ones were white. I cannot wait until we get to dye the Marans eggs this year.

We dyed our brown ones last year. I agree the colors turn out richer. My vote, use your own eggs! You will be glad you did.
