Has anyone tried this and been successful? I have an igloo cooler, fan, digital temp gauge that tracks his/los, will add water with sponge and hole to add water in lock-down. Do you think I could play around with bulb wattage or will it vary too much? I'm wanting to try a small hatch without one and wondering if anyone has had luck doing it this way? (I have my own fertile eggs to test on) Thanks!

With no thermostate you have to be where the temp is constant, like a basement, and cool enough so the bulb is just barely able to keep the temp in incubator at 100. My brother did it wit a pin-up light and a 5 gallon bucket when we were kids. But you can get a thermastat/ heater and fan unit for 50 bucks, why not just do that .

Thank you. We have a finished basement where the temp stays very consistent so I'll try it down there. My husband doesn't really want me to hatch so it was agreed I could try if I had the materials already. Silly I know, I could get a water heater thermostat for under $10. I personally just want to buy one that I know has good reviews but thought I'd give it a try and see what happens.

get set up.... then instead of eggs, put in bottles of water. then you can test the temp of the water in the bottles with a thermometer (the kind you use when you got a cold) if you can keep the water in the bottles at the proper temp for a few days,....then toss in some eggs and off you go!

Great idea, thanks! I'm getting everything finished this week and will test a while before I set some eggs.
