Dying baby chicks for Easter? wrong?

To my opinion it depends on what you dye them with - Nowadays people move more to food coloring and vegetable dyes.

The only thing that bothers me is that in most occasions these are dyed as Easter Chicks just for someone to get a cute chick, then when it grows up they don't want it anymore. It's not a cute chick anymore. So, they dispose of it in some sort of manner. .

I think it depends on who is dying the chicks. If you do it the right way, i believe they will live long happy lives, but if you dont it could be bad.

I've dyed chicks in the past when I had two breeds that otherwise looked similar and only one brooder, or when I had someone who'd vent sex for me. Just dry them before they get a chill and they are fine.

Never seen dyed chicks around here but people are always trying to get rid of their chicks and duckling after Easter. TSC are always finding chicks 1 week to about 6 weeks old on their door step over the next few weeks after Easter. They give them away to people whom they know will give them a good home. Hoping to get some Batnam Cochins, BR's and RIR's.

Oh you all just had to open this one didn't you??? Sorry but I am going to have to vent about this practice... I will try to be brief & nonoffensive! Simply put - IT IS WRONG...... not that the dye really affects the poultry - just that we sanction the dying of them knowing that they are being sold for an unique Easter gift & knowing that in most cases the animal is destined to die. I own a feed store & will NEVER NEVER carry on this practice.... we even delay getting layer chicks in until after Easter. Money does not override morality. Aniamls are not disposable nor should they be used as a "gift" without the expectation that the receiver will research said animal & give it the semblence of a proper environment. I have NO problem with animals used for meat - but only when their lives are given, at minimum, the respect due all life in that they are treated well, with respect & live in a natural environment & they are depatched with speed & mercy & dignity.
I think I will stop here as that certain vein in my head is beginning to throb!!! I do realize that some people who receive these colored poultry will care for them appropriately - however the majority will not.

I bought a green duck last year for easter and he just gre out of the coloring when he lost his baby fluff he turned out to be one big happy pekin duck no health problems at all.

I had a dyed chick as a young child, many years ago...he turned out just fine.

When I saw the word, "dying" I thought the worst until I realized you meant "dyeing". Whew!

Some states ban colored Easter Egg chicks but not all of them follow protocol!

Not a problem for those who are planning on eating them!

I will have to tell her today that I seen a picture of them and I believe her now... she loves to hear that she was right and I was wrong.
