Dying chicken, please help

My chicken had very loose poo for a couple of weeks so i spoke to the vet and took a sample in and they gave me metoxyl for Cocci which affects their intestinal wall and stops them absorbing nutients from their food. It didnt cost me anything for the test. Have you thought of this

If you still havnt had the results of the test get some metoxyl to put in the water as the longer they have this disease the harder it is for them to recover as the parasites keep multiplying. Can you see any blood in the dropings as this is the first thing my vet said he could see, although I couldnt see it.

I did not see blood. Will be calling the lab on Monday if she makes it this long. I don't have any metoxyl, would have to order.

Metoxyl is available in France. Here in the US, Corid would be found at most feed stores either in powder packs or liquid. Dosage is 1 1/2 tsp of the powder or 2 tsp of the liquid per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Make fresh daily. A vet may prescribe sulfa antibiotics instead of Corid.

I would wake her and try to get some water into her. Add a little electrolytes or give some Gatorade or pedialyte if she will take those. Or just plain water. She may be dehydrated.

X2 with what @Eggcessive suggested. If she has continuous liquid poo she is dehydrating herself, especially if she isn't taking in fluid like she should. The paleness in her comb isn't unusual in molting hens, but it can also be a sign of worm load or dehydration.

I'd definitely hunt up Corid ASAP and get her started on it along with your other birds. If you suspect worm load in one bird, you can bet real money they are all positive for parasites.

Saying a prayer that you girl pulls through.:fl

I'm so terribly sorry she didn't make it. I know how bad it hurts.:hugs:hit:hugs

Perhaps her passing will help the rest of your flock when you get the stool sample results back.

Please accept my sincere condolences and please let us know what you find out. It may be worth while to consider having a necropsy done on her remains. Simply put her in a gallon sized zip lock freezer bag and freeze her remains until you can talk to your vet.

We are sorry that your family's pet chicken has died. It is good that she is not suffering however, but it must be hard on your kids. Many of us do our own necropsies to look for a cause of death, but one can also send a refrigerated body to the state vet for a professional one. Here is contact info and shipping instructions, and another link about doing a necropsy yourself:

So sorry to hear she didnt make it, its worse when you dont know why and wish you could have done more. I cant imagine how I would feel and I have only had my girls for 6 months, I have already had to deal with a respitory problem, diarrhea, moulting and broodyness, I thought it was easy to keep chickens but I worry all the time that they are OK,
