Umm... that’s a BEAUTIFUL boy! I am glad he’s improving and hope he makes it. I agree it looks like Marek’s, unfortunately.

HOLD UP PEOPLE!!!! are you telling me that Thelma is a MALE!! hahaha that explains why she hasnt layed... So abviously Im a rookie at this sohow can you guys tell??? I have hens with a larger comb and wattles then this one.... she/he was given to us with another. and were told both were females.. but they were much younger and hard to tell .. we named them Thelma and Louise ... we Louise as he grew older was clearly a male, large comb and wattle, started strutting his stuff, mounting the hens and finally crowing last week...... So now Louise is now Luis..lol... but Thelma has done none of that stuff.... But I think I have 5 people on this thread telling me the she is a he so i guess its time we rename Thelma to Theodore...lol... So how do you tell?
so what makes this so funny is when we first got chickens one ended up being a male, so i asked my neighbor, who has a ton of chickens if he wanted our male... he said sure and took.. he called a few minutes late and said his wife told him to give us two of their hens... so he did... thelma and louise...... Louise clearly was a male we couldsd tell within weeks .... but now i find out thelma is also a male. .. we traded i male for 2 ... hahaha so i guess we have Theodore and Luis... hahaha... well on a serious note. He does seem to have regressed some tonight...]
That's probably why they were given to you... This one is definitely a male. You can tell by the long, pointy feathers on the base of his neck, his back, and near his tail. His tail is also a dead giveaway. The comb is not a large single comb (I didn't look close enough to see if it's a pea or rose comb) so it's not going to get very tall.
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope he can recover. This does mean, though, that you will need to figure out what to do with two males in your flock... How many females?so what makes this so funny is when we first got chickens one ended up being a male, so i asked my neighbor, who has a ton of chickens if he wanted our male... he said sure and took.. he called a few minutes late and said his wife told him to give us two of their hens... so he did... thelma and louise......
