Dying one week old chicks

Hi I ordered chicks from Mayers hatchery. Three days now and I have lost 5 chicks. They get weak and next day die. Stools look fine. They just get weak and die

What is the temp in your brooder? What feed are they on? What are you using on the floor of your brooder? Any issues with pasty butt? Are they eating/drinking? Are you familiar with Coccidiosis?

I don't want to even think cocci. how could they get it if that was the case.
Temperature in brooder is on one side. They gather there to sleep. Medicated feed . floor i put the plastic things you use for dishes

Don't take this the wrong way, but it looks a little too dirty to me and maybe a little too small. Is there enough room to properly place a heatlamp?

I would have to agree with Kathy. That is not near enough space for that many chicks. My opinion is far from expert but I would agree that both of you are dealing with cocci. Chicks need space to run, get away from heat/other chicks, and to keep food and water away from the heat source.

Coccidiosis is rare in less than 1 week old chicks, and especially if they have not been on the ground or around other chickens. I think you are probably seein deaths from shipping stress. Meyer is in northeastern Ohio, and it has been very cold here--too cold for shipping chicks even with heat packs. I would give them electrolytes in their water for a few days. Get them out of that too small of a brooder, and get a a big box or other enclosure. Put a thermometer on the floor, and have one space 85-90 degrees, and the other side cooler. Paper towels make good bedding for the first week or so--just throw them away and add a clean layer twice a day. Then get them on pine shavings. Good luck, and I hope you don't lose any more.

It also looks like the flooring is that mesh stuff that people use in kitchen caninets. I use it in my incubator when they hatch, but the problem I have seen with it is that it's really hard to clean and dry properly, so I use towels in my brooders.

Also, make sure your heat lamp is *not* teflon coated... Someone here recently lost a bunch of birds because they used one of those.

Also that looks like an aquarium. I don't think you can get enough oxegyn flowing in there, this will cause illness/ death as well, and if not will as to it. Make sure you have enough airflow/oxegyn.
