dying quail

When you hunt an animal, at least it had a good life in freedom and a quick death. The meat we buy is usually the flesh of animals that experienced confinement and various degrees of cruelty. Not my thing!
Oh I agree, I've never had to go hungry so can't say in all honestly that I'd never hunt.either. Not all animals that are hunted get a quick death though.

Seems to depend in large part on the skill of the hunter. These days any yahoo able to fire a weapon or set a trap calls themselves a hunter, it's horrible what novices can do, or just experienced but inept and callous people.

To be fair, animals being conventionally raised also suffer a strike rate of inhumane culls, with something going wrong on a semi regular basis.... But personally I think hunting should be restricted to those who have proven accuracy on non living targets first, not just 'here's your first gun, kiddo, now out we go to test it on some wildlife'.

I'm from Germany. And to be able to get a hunting license in Germany you have to study for a good while about all the wildlife, their habits, the environmental connections, the ecosystem. And then you have to take a test. And only if you pass you get the license.
