Dying rooster

He's still alive! I have him in a sling and put food right in front of him. Water is very close. I got an electrolyte and vitamin supplement and got as much as I could down his throat. I learned he's still feisty! Today I've mixed hydro hen into his water. So that's where we are. Still doing ok.
So glad he’s hanging in there! I just had something similar happen with my Polish hen two weeks ago. She couldn’t stand or even lift her head, and I was convinced she wasn’t going to make it. I put Nutri Drench in her water and did my best to make sure she drank anyway… After about 2 days, her appetite returned and she slowly gained her strength back and has made a full recovery! I consider it a miracle 😊

I highly recommend scrambling an egg for him to see if he’ll eat it. I scramble mine in coconut oil and will put dried oregano on it for a little immune system boost. 💜 Don’t give up hope!

If you hold him upright, he should be able to drink. The pill, just pry the beak open and shove it in.

If he's too weak to drink on his own, you will need to syringe the fluids into him like this.View attachment 3241678
That chicken is more compliant than mine. I could barely get his beak open. I think I got about half in him. He's got enough life in him to fight my efforts.

He's hanging in there. Being lazy sitting in his hammock. I'm starting to think there's hope! He is eating, drinking I'm not sure about. I hear him wiggling in the crate. Since I can't see him (he's in the laundry room) I don't know what he's doing when I hear noises but he must be feeling better to wiggle around.

You need to check on him in case he's gotten himself into a pickle. Chickens aren't meant to be installed in a chicken chair to be left alone indefinitely in it. They're mainly so they can eat and drink. Usually, an hour is as much as they will tolerate before they try to extricate themselves.

As for being cooperative, no chicken is a pushover for being cooperative for medical treatment. They have jaws of alligators and you need a car jack to get them pried open.

Of course, he may remain in the chair for as long as he's content. Just check on him frequently. When I've had chickens in such chairs, they may be paralyzed, but they have been able to fling themselves out of the chair, and I fear they might hurt themselves.

Was he vaccinated for Mareks disease? That can be a concern at his age with lameness or loss of balance. Injury, vitamin deficiency, mold in feed, dehydration, lead or other poisoning can all be possibilities.

I don't know what Marecks disease is. How do I vaccinate for it? What do I do with this rooster if that's the problem? Can he recover from the other things you mentioned?

I gave him the egg yesterday and he scarfed it down. How often should I do that?
