Yes, with the wi-fi one you can read your books anywhere, you just can't download new ones unless you're at a place that offers wi-fi (or at your home computer). The main reason I didn't get the nook is that I recently read an article that Barnes & Noble may go under. If that turns out the be the case, I'd be furious with a device that I couldn't download new books with. I also didn't see the need for the color screen because books are after all, in black and white to begin with. Unless I was buying books with a lot of color photos, which I don't.

Amazon's customer service for the Kindle is spectacular. People have a much easier time getting assistance with problems than when they buy a Nook.

If you buy the wrong book by accident with Amazon, or you get it and it has problems (lots of typos, bad formatting, etc.) it takes a 2 minute phone call to get your money back.

It's my understanding that the B&N will not refund money for books ordered for the Nook for any reason.

Also, Amazon offers a warranty that you can purchase. It's pricey, but will replace your kindle even if you drop it in the bathtub...

I've heard the same thing about refunds. I do know that once I lost access to all my books for some unknown reason. I was just about to re-download them all but decided to call Amazon first. With a couple simple steps, they helped me re-set my Kindle and voila! They were all back.

Yep, your amazon books stay in your account there. You have access to them until...well, I suppose until you die or Amazon goes out of business...or the zombies invade...

I liked the bottom of the nook. Not because of the color but because I like the visual. Very simplistic. I know the nook is a little slower but not any slower than me actually turning a page in an actual book! lol I didnt like the look of kindles keyboard. If you really look, both of them have really good different features. Nook is also generating a knew 1.5 upgrade which will speed up the turning of pages and downloading. I like how nook lets you have a screen saver also! I know for serious book readers (like my parents) would prefer the kindle. I (teenager) would rather the touch screen. This will really help out for my literature classes. I hate carrying around huge textbooks when I only have to read one book out of it.

My books upload in seconds to my nook..

I just saw a commercial on food network.. something about getting their recipes on the nook..

not sure how to do it though..

All of this. I have both a Kindle and an Ipad. I very much prefer reading on the Kindle because it's easier on the eyes, although if you want to read at night, you'll need a light. I originally bought the Kindle for my husband, and traveling around the world, he has broken it twice. (This is not a condemnation of the Kindle's durability, more like a reflection of how hard my husband is on his electronics.) Both times, they've replaced it for free, and they send you a new one before you have to send the old one back. You simply place the broken one into the package they sent the new one in, drop it at the PO and you're done.

I did a lot of research, and felt that Kindle had the best features, the best service, the best warranty and the best selection. I also have 3G which I really love because it means I can download virtually anywhere. I don't have to connect it to my computer, which is annoying, imo.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Ipad, but if your looking for a reading device, Kindle wins, in my book.

By the way Joe17, I have the Kindle 3. So my prior posts about loving it were all based on the Kindle 3. I watched a TON of videos. If you go to the Amazon reviewer section, many of them uploaded videos comparing the kindle and the nook, and I was by far sold on the Kindle. And it's SO light and thin! I have no complaints about the kindle (3) so far; I LOVE it.
