Ear ache remedies?

That could have been bad, I was going to leave the "dry" out of it, but I didn't want any leftovers going into people's socks.

You would have to wait until tomorrow to get it at a "good" health food store, but garlic and mullein oil. the garlic works on any infection and the mullein on the pain. It does really work. I HATE going to the doctor for something I can take care of on my own. If it was me, with NO temp., I would use the oil and take Ibuprofen for pain and inflamation. Swollen glands probabaly just mean your body is fighting something, but it doesn't necessarily mean you need to see a doctor. I had the same thing (swollen glands) a few weeks ago, one side for 3 days then the other for 3 days. VERY painful, hurt to talk, but no temp. I didn't go to the doc. but yet I survived without antibiotics. I would only go to the doc if I had a very high temp (102+ for me) for more than a day.

I have used warm compresses.Good ol' heated salt in a sock,or the bean bag. I never liked putting anything in the ear but you can buy herbs for kids garlic/mullien oil drops. You can make that at home too.Even garlic and oil is good enough.I prefer taking garlic and drinking lots of rose hip tea. I read about alcohol to dry things up in the ear,but I always get that squishy feeling if I put anything in the ear.

I have seen average ear scopes online with picture booklets that can be used by families to determine if you are at a stage requiring doctor intervention. If cost is low a doctor eval is always good.We pay $70 a visit,so doctors are a last resort....and yes we have insurance!

The warmth is my first preference. When you lay on the heat pad the warming will sometimes help drain the fluids.

This page is for kids, but I always used it when I needed treatment options, and just upped the dosage. Now I have an adult version book.

Speedy healings! I had the worst ear infection when pregnant with my second.Did not want to take anything and it healed, but darn did it hurt.Back then I did not know about herbs and natural treatment options. It was either antibios or tylenol, lol.

I'm already partly deaf in my left ear due to damage to the ear drum. Been that way since I was a kid. Makes me nervous about losing any more hearing. Especially since the pain is now in my right ear too, and is worse than the left.

Heat makes it feel worse (throbbing). Cold on my neck was/ is nice.
I get dizzy whenever I stand up or move around. I feel queasy just sitting still.

Must've whimpered in my sleep: DH insists I see the doc. Regular doc is out for the week. Seeing the nurse practitioner at the 'old' doctor's office.

Cats must be worried too. All night I dreamed my feet were eggs and they (the cats) were trying to hatch them. Gotta love those feverish dreams. And feline footwarmers....

Temp did go up. Only 100.5, but that's 4 degrees above my normal.
I thought I successfully avoided my usual spring sinus infection. Now I'm thinking it went somewhere else

Thanks for the advice, ya'll. I was looking forward to seeing what my regular doc thought about various home remedies. That distracted me nicely for a while.

I have a double ear infection in the left ear, 'just' an infection of the eustacian tube in the right ear.
I don't do well with prednisone, so I got a shot of cortizone in my 'hip'.

Now I have ear drops AND oral antibiotics.

But I will better in time to hang out everybody on Saturday!!!

I got a card in the mail. I have eggs at the PO. I thought I had all my eggs in already. Good thing I'm ill or hubby would lecture me

If you have a health food store, and a buddy, get an ear candling kit. You have your buddy light it and watch it burn down to the line. It will heat up the earwax and draw it out, and it does help with earaches.
Good luck!

sorry, I'm REALLY glad you didn't use the warm compresses. I'll never do that again...glad you went to the doc too!

I've heard of ear candling but never done it. I'm sure I could get a kit. But hopefully the meds will kick out my ear infections now.

Don't know how I missed this last night, but I did. No wax build-up for me. I was hoping that's all it was, and washed my ears out with peroxide. But no such luck.

rodriguezpoultry, I'm really glad I didn't use warm stuff too. But cold on my neck felt really good and the doc said that's because of the Eu. tube infections.
