Hey everyone!

We have an Andalusian blue pullet and I saw this odd bump in her. Her earlobe is clean, and we have been given her some antibiotics and putting Neosporin on it daily.

Seems to have gone down a little bit, but not a lot. But today we saw these weird things attached to her feathers right underneath her beack by her neck.

Dawn soap and warm water would not take it out. It's too close to her skin to trim any off.

Any idea what these are?

Which part looks like lies? The bump or the weird stuff on her feathers?

I did find a small yellow bug crawling on her after careful inspection

You can see the bugs in her feathers in the 3rd picture. I agree with lice and nits. Permethrin is what I would use, either the garden dust, or the 5-10% spray, made from a concentrate, available at TSC and other farm stores. Likely all chickens will have them, and they will need treated at least twice at 10 day intervals, along with coop treatment and new bedding. Here is a good link to read for how to treat and what they look like: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/08/poultry-lice-and-mites-identification.html

Wow! I totally missed that.

I separated her a few days ago to make sure the other babies don't get bitten. But should I treat them as well even if they don't show any signs?

We're going to put some diatomaceous red earth on the run so the big girls don't get it either… She had to have gotten it from somewhere.

We did have a friend babysit them at her house... yikes.

Now that I am thinking about it this would make sense. They have been in a cage says they're very little so they have not been able to dust bathe..

DE wont kill them, you need permethrin, and DE if it gets wet or is exposed to moisture is completely useless

I just bought the dust but they also have the permethrin10 in liquid form. Do I dilute this down and spray it around the run?

The run is roughly 8 feet front to back and 75 feet long. How much would I need? 1 quart? Or 8 oz?

you dont further dilute it
dust everywhere in the run AFTER you remove all the bedding, spray perches/roosts etc

AND dust the bird or spray the bird

WEAR A MASK WHEN YOU DO THIS and try not to get it in their faces
