Ear lobe color and egg color-- wrong

I keep seeing people repeat this: "You can tell what color egg a hen will lay by the ear lobes. Red for brown, and white for white eggs."

This is true most of the time, but it is never stated with this qualifier.

Holland chickens, for example, do not have white ear lobes and lay white eggs. There are two varieties -- the white variety and the barred variety.

Going the other way, Penedesenca, white lobes, dark brown eggs.

And of course all the blue/green egg layers which technically break the rule.

I agree, most people take it as a rule, but it's really just a guideline, for instance, I pretty sure that silkys don't lay BRIGHT blue eggs!

Yes, it is something to help people who are new to chickens.

I would have no problem with it if people would state, in most cases red ear lobes indicate brown eggs and white ear lobes indicate white eggs.
