I would appreciate any opinions on the gender of my 5.5 week old light Brahma. I know it’s early but she has some pink/reddening of her comb and it is wider than my other Brahma chick’s comb. I heard that Brahmas are notoriously slow to mature so it has me worried. She is bigger with bigger legs and feet and the tail feathers are not as uniform as the other brahmas they are kind of all over the place if that makes sense. No attitude does seem in charge but she is the biggest of the group. She’s the one on the right. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I think it's too soon to say with certainty, but you're right, it's comb is more developed than the other Brahma. So maybe a cockerel. Keep an eye on the comb and wattles for now.

A week later, the comb is darker and I’m starting to see pink and a little red on the wattles. Ankles are twice as thick as the other Light Brahma chick. I’m feeling like there is no chance this is a pullet. Do pullets ever redden this early? 7 weeks in two days. Here is an updated picture. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I think it is probably a cockerel. The pink comb and the difference in size from the other one are what I'm going by. I do still think there's a small chance it could be a pullet. This breed is a slow developer so can take longer to tell gender than with some other breeds. I hope others chime in with their own opinions.

I think pullet, one of my chicks was a standard breed like this one at 7wks, but your chick's comb is smallar than when my matans chick was at this age.

I am guessing cockerel.
I heard that Brahmas are notoriously slow to mature so it has me worried.
They can be all over the place, especially hatchery ones. One of my Brahmas was my first to start laying at 20 weeks while my other Brahma was my last to start laying at around 26 weeks.

The one in question is definitely a bit bigger in the body but is a decent amount taller than the other. It is my calmest chick right now and the easiest to catch and hold. Quietest as well. It is the only one who doesn’t run away when my big chickens come poking around their look don’t touch enclosure. Just stays calm and will look at them. No puffing or chest stuff though. Just seems to be very chill to be honest. Are these signs of a cockerel?

Another update! The chicks are 9 weeks now and I’m finding that the red/pink of the face and comb ebbs and flows quite a bit with the weather and activity. Blood flow I’m assuming. Today was warmer here after a few cold days and she was pretty pink and even red in some places. Interestingly enough my other light Brahma started pinking up recently as well. Also closing the gap size wise. To the point that I have to do a double take to check who is who. No comb growth or wattle development that I’ve notice since I first posted. I’m thinking it may just be how they are maturing and one just started earlier? I’ll update pictures any thoughts appreciated!

This is my other light Brahma who recently started to get pink/red in the face and comb.
