Early February 2016 Hatch - Who's In?

Quote: That is what I thought also. When I candled it and discovered the problems it had, I thought "maybe I should just throw it away, it probably won't make it." But no, I feel like I should protect its life, and leave the results up to God. And who knows, it may survive.
I had a little chick hatch out of a cracked egg (membrane and all), who was broken out of the shell at day 24. I was just doing my usual end-of-hatch eggtopsy, broke open the egg and that chick was alive! The inside of the egg was full of blood and it had not even internally pipped. He survived, and even though he always had a limp, he had a good life. Had to be euthanized in the end due to severe pox, but he was the sweetest little Welsumer rooster ever. Followed me around wherever I went.

I emptied all of my reservoirs except one and humidity won't go lower than 41 I will leave it at that I suppose, I am afraid to do a dry run. I'll candle on day 18 and check again!

How often does everyone candle their eggs? I've been hands off as much as possible thinking that's what I was supposed to do (1st time incubating) but I'm reading on here some candle a lot of different days.

I thought I read someone candled even on day 21! Isn't that "lockdown time"? How scandalous and daring!

Just to be sure I'm doing it ok, the days are 7, 14 and 18 traditionally? I'm going nerdy this first hatch, but some of you out there are so brave and bold!

There is so much conflicting advice! I did one early one *badmbadme* then one on day 7 or 8 (depending on what you consider day 1) and will do another this Sat night (day 15/16). I may not do one pre-lockdown if they all look good this Sat night. I am considering Tue morning 2/2 as lockdown.

Mine runs anywhere from the low 20's to mid 40's. No matter what I do i can't keep it in the 30s consistently.
Humidity is always my downfall! I never know what to leave it at! Loli emptied out all my reservoirs just now and dried it out, I'll leave it for a few hours and see what it is, it's easier to add than take away lol, chicks looked good last night when I candled just air cells were on the smaller side.

And I reviewed Sally Sunshine's thread and she said don't handle eggs on days 11-14. I did candle on day 10 or 11, oops and crud!

Yes on conflicting advice, lol! "Candle day 7, 14 & 18" but "don't candle 11-14" hmm...

I guess I'll candle day 15 instead.
