I have a sapphire gem and smokey pearl pullet, both hatched 3/5/23. It is now exactly 3 months later, and both have deep red combs and waddles and are already starting to squat when approached. It seems a bit early, but these are sure-fire signs of coming into lay. Wouldn't it be way too early for any breed?

I'm not as convinced as some that these are surefire 100% absolutely each and every time without a shadow of a doubt guarantees that they are ready to drop an egg at any time. I have a pullet that willingly squatted for a cockerel and did not lay her first egg for over 6 weeks.

It would be earlier than expected but not impossible for one to drop an egg within the next three weeks.
