Hello,
I’m very new here so apologies if this doesn’t go to plan!
I have four hybrid girls who are about 18 weeks old now. One (I think it’s just the one!) has laid one small egg every morning for 12 days in a row. Two of them are squatting when I go near them.
I was curious whether more experienced chicken owners would think it is likely that it IS just one chicken that’s laying, and she’s really laid one a day from the point of laying starting? Or would it be more likely that both of the squatting ones are taking it in turns?
I read that their laying is likely to be a little sporadic at first, so really didn’t expect 12 eggs in 12 days from one chicken!
The eggs are all between 40-48g and go up and down in weight (friday’s was 45g, yesterday’s was 43g, today’s was 48g). The space between finding eggs has been as little as 22 hours.
Thanks so much for any help, it’s much appreciated :)

Squatting isn’t a sign of active laying, it’s just a sign of maturity. I doubt they’re taking it in turns to lay, you would end up getting 2 eggs a day every so often. It’s not uncommon or unusual for pullets to start laying and keep laying.
