So I was googling because one of my Rocks has distinct white ears; the other 2 girls have greyish ears & did you know the colour of the ears can predict what colour eggs you will have? Gobsmacked! White ears, white eggs; brown ears, brown eggs ~ variations within the spectrum & yes, my white eared Rock lays a beautifully shaped whitish egg.

But what I now want to know is what colour ears chickens have who lay coloured eggs ~ & yes I understand about genetics & pigment overlays. Anyone with eastereggers or other coloured layers who can enlighten me?
 
Thats not always true. Within a breed, hens can be differently colored, but all hens of the same breed will lay the same colored eggs.

OK, but my rocks lay from whitish to brown ~ quite distinct colour variations. Obviously genetics will over~ride everything else. I was just curious how such a generalisation worked out with coloured eggs. I can't test the theory myself because I don't have any coloured egg layers.

Even in a close up I can't even see where they should be. I tried! :)
