Earthquake affecting today's eggs?

Oh, wow; I heard about the Seattle earthquake! Glad you're OK, @Henriettamom919! And hopefully your hens will calm down, the poor girls! It's scary-all these earthquakes. Years ago I had one really shake my house...during the night! I woke up screaming!

Our last "real" quake here in the Seattle area was in 01', I think. That was a 6.5/6.6? But the epicenter was quite a bit South so it felt more like the "rolling" type of quake. This was just a mile off and we're not in a suburb laid on concrete so these jolts knocked stuff off counters, rocked the house hard and our entire neighborhood was awake afterwards.

I used to worry about the big one but what can we really do? It was a good reminder I need to swap out my three day emergency trash can supplies and add chicken products to the human and cat supplies!

I was in elementary school during that quake. We got to go home early that day.

Yeah, I hear ya!

When the '94 Northridge quake hit we had 3 kids still living at home. I was on my feet running from room to room before I think I actually woke up because my first memory was being halfway across the house at my 7yo son's room.

PS He was fine up on the top of his bunkbed. ...but I dropped him getting him down to "protect" him. Yay, mom!

anywhere on the pacific coast is going to be prone to earthquakes, Washington and Oregon get plenty every year, its just that the California earthquakes suck up all of the media attention anywho, yeah at least i think thats why our earthquakes dont get much media attention.
And theryre usually larger/more destructive than ours are. but its always possible for us to have just as much of a "big one" than they (cali) are. In addition, we all are a part of the "ring of fire" meaning that any of our active volcanoes could go off. another under-realized natural disaster on the pacific coast. guess everyone already forgot about mt st helens in the 80's. guess its been long enough........

Yeah, you all can keep that "ring of fire" thing, though we do have the Mammoth Mountain area thing going on here in Cali... And we can't forget Lassen... Meanwhile, I guess the Ridgecrest 7.1 beat out the Oregon 4.5 for media attention... But when it comes to earthquakes, it is pretty much anytime anyplace, but never where expected.

It's all along the 5, kiddo! Lassen, Shasta and Long Valley Caldera are all on the federal threat list. So is Mammoth, as you suggest, but it's lower on their scale of impending threat.

I'm a former Californian, so all the quake did was wake us for about 2 seconds and then we went right back to sleep. I'll sleep through anything under a 6 really.

My chickens seemed not at all bothered. Same with the dogs - I think I heard our newest dog shift around (she's just outside the bedroom due to massive separation anxiety) but no whining, panting, trying to get into the room, etc.

Only damage done was a few already-unsteady knickknacks tipped over.

Well, it's been a weird two days in regards to my animals but otherwise unremarkable. Two of my three layers hasn't laid since the quake but some idiot nearby has also been letting off large fireworks day and night I hated to do it but I finally called and reported it last night because...C'MON!!!

I did start stocking up chicken supplies for the three day emergency kit- vacuum sealed feed, sealed meal worms and nutridrench, sealed container Blukote and some canned tuna which I figure could double as cat food if the need arose. I also factored in extra water for my babies. Ideally I'd empty the green house shelving and have a month's worth of everything we need. I may have ordered a sterile suture kit from Amazon, too *puts on tinfoil hat*
