Earthworms?

If I dig the garden I am inundated by the girls. As they even sit on the fork it makes the task impossible.

For a real treat, if you have a compost heap, turn it over to expose the little red worms....they go into feeding frenzy mode!

Earthworms are extremely rich in protein( or so I've read) After a heavy rain brings them to the surface my chickens seem to just gorge themselves on the feast. Haven't ever noticed any ill effects at all.
