we got a coop secondhand. no issues with the coop itself but it did not have nesting boxes. my husband built the boxes onto the side with close off doors to each box and a lift on top to retrieve eggs. problem is that for the past few weeks there have been earwig bugs all over JUST the nesting box area. could we have bought bad wood that we built it with? I stained the outside of the additiong but did not stain the inside of the nesting boxes themselves so could that be it? any ideas of what I can do to rid the boxes of these gross bugs???Thanks so much for any help.

A strong mixture of dish soap and water is what I use, earwigs like moisp areas, like in between wood boards, easiest way to prevent them is to get rid of those places...however, I get them around the door ways of my house, in the clothes I hang on the line...and I can't get rid of those...lol..but the dish soap solution has helped me around my door ways...

Chickens are like cats, in that some make excellent mousers and hunt, and some don't.

I had mice, carpenter ants, and cricket issues in my shed before it became the hen house.

I haven't see any of these in years.

Have you given your birds a chance to eradicate your problem themselves?

Mine love earwigs.
