Easiest brooder setup

Do you have a coop yet? If so, you might give brooding in the coop or secure run a shot. For our 2nd batch of chicks we brooded outdoors. That seemed easier and better for the chicks. IMHO. Here is a short article we did on brooding outdoors. After the chicks integrated we just left the shell of the brooder in the run as furniture, hiding spot.

Brooder in covered run - Updated 7/11 Six weeks

x2. Brooding outside is easiest. I brood in the run and spend zero time cleaning, I simply move it around the run to keep it "clean." No cost for bedding as I just use the litter that's already there, waterer is a 1 qt mason jar style marketed for chick usage and feeder is the same sort of thing, except I only buy the base and not even the jar. And I also leave the brooder sitting around as a rain shelter for my adult hens during the rest of the year.

My husband built me a 6'x4' brooder so i could literally get in it and spend time with the chicks. Nope, not kidding! 🤣
