East Coast dwellers, ducks, and Hurricane Irene.

I am with PDurkin, my ducks will be brought in tomorrow (8/27) when it feels right (day is supposed to start out with a little rain). They'll be in all day on 8/28 and that night, too. We have a basement storm shelter for duckies.

It sounds like it could potentially be a real rip-snorter, the likes of which New England hasn't seen in over fifty years. I'm not taking chances.

I'm going to wait and see too. We may only experience winds up to 40+ which is not a big deal where I am. Just last week as a matter of fact. Sometimes there is so much hype and then pfft.

Best of luck to all out there. Hunker down and be safe.

I might have thought about bringing them inside but with 75 birds including 20 ducks and 4 geese. I have no place (no garage) and couldn't even imagine the noise much less the mess. We are just gonna keep an eye on things and hope for the best.

maybe it would be alright to just have something they can run into in case it gets bad. i live in florida and over the summer the weather is just bipolar all the time. i have an igloo for my 2 ducks outside so just in case i'm not home and the weather goes crazy again, they can take cover in there and so far it works really well. of course in a bad hurricane, i would take them inside if you can... they may not blow away but i can imagine alot of random objects that could crush or stab blowing around....even if you have them in a screened in area

Oh come on. What would be wrong with 75 birds running amuck in the house.

I hope everything is well with you.

It's way better to secure the animals inside before it gets bad. Way harder in bad weather. Not to mention it could be dangerous. Animals are way more cooperative when it isn't stormy. I don't know how many ducks the op person has, but put them in a kennel crate in a dark room. Hopefully they will sleep through a lot of it.

Thanks! Well we've made out ok so far. Haven't lost power yet. Thought we would a couple times last night, but we didn't. A few branches down. 1 hit the run to guinea coop and that needs to be fixed, but it's minor. Basement is pretty dry. Tornados we had warnings about didn't hit. We still have some winds to deal with until this afternoon, but so far so good.

All birds have faired just fine.
