East Tx Turkeys

We have a small homestead and currently have a flock of 15 chickens. I’d like to add a few turkeys but have been reading that it might not be the best idea due to possible disease. Anyone in the East Texas area have experience with this. Appreciate the help.

Contact your local county extension agent. If you have a local (not chain) feed store, ask there. Local feed stores know their customers and can put you in touch with local turkey raisers.

Other sources can be local veterinarians. As a last resort, contact the state veterinarian.

The disease you are asking about is blackhead (histomoniasis).
