Easter Egg layers, where to buy them

I just learned EE's are not Ameraucanas, but are cross bred from Ameraucanas and Araucanas.

Does anyone know where to buy EE's? Our farm store or poultry place doesn't carry them.

I'm looking for colored eggs. I have two Ameraucanas who lay blue eggs so far.

Most commercial hatcheries sell them as "Ameracaunas". An easy way to tell if the price, if they are less than $5 each, they are certainly EE's and not true Ameracaunas.

EE's can be crosses with just about anything (I doubt the ones sold today have much Aracauna left in them, they probably have a lot more Rock "blood" than Aracauna). As long as they lay colored (green usually) eggs and have some amount of "muffs" around their ears, they sell as Ameracaunas. Because of the hybridization, they are great layers and very popular.

I think there's only Meyer hatchery selling pure Ameraucana, and the price difference is substansial. Also, a pure bred bird will be advertised by color, like I think Meyers has blue birds. If there's not color specified, if they say any color but blue eggs, and they're under/around $5 each, you're getting Easter eggers. Look for pea combs for better chances of blue or green eggs.

Hi cjpines! Im interested to know if you've found any EE's locally? Or have you ordered some from a hatchery? I live near you in Somerset and am looking to add blue and green egg layers to my flock as soon as I can find some. I will be calling around but usually the local feed stores carry the same few breeds. Ive been looking online and just found a site about Slate Creek Farm in Shingle Springs that sold Easter Eggers and olive eggers in 2013 and not sure if they still do. Ill be calling tomorrow since today is sunday. But figured I'd ask to see you've found some?

Hi, I bought my EE's from Poultry Palace in Placerville. http://www.thepoultrypalace.com/ Jay his name owner, sells baby chicks as well as 7-8 week old pullets. I bought the 7-8 week olds, I didn't want to do the baby chicks. Both lay blue/green eggs. You would have to ask him about the chicken who lays olive eggs. They have list posted outside their store when and what kinds of chickens they will have available. Also, you can order what you prefer. They are located in a funny area, behind a mechanic shop, coming from Somerset it's on the right side before Front Yard Nursery on left, their address is 5694C, Motherload Dr. Pville.
