I have a easter egger that is 9 weeks old and has got what looks like pasty butt 2times and has a red bump looking thing sticking out of its butt. You can push the red bump back in its butt and the next day its out again. I'm also finding a lot of blood in the coop the past two mornings that I think is hers. Any ideas what's wrong with her? Its a good bit of blood

Pasty butt can really irritate their skin. The process of removing it can cause tears which may bleed (if you're too rough), poo left to accumulate can cause things like ammonia burn and sometimes being backed up can cause irritation to their vents.

However, usually the bleeding is pretty minor and stops pretty quickly. What you're describing doesn't sound like that's whats going on.

Is it possible you could get a picture of her vent, and whats being left behind in the coop? I would think she should be well past the pasty butt phase at 9 weeks old. The red thing sticking out of its vent is probably just that, the inside of its vent. Sometimes you can see that if they're straining to go. Is it possible someone is picking at her? Is it possible there was a squabble and the blood isn't even hers, as in did you check everyone over for wounds? Superficial wounds, like comb nicks, can bleed A LOT. Like, I've gone to the coop and theres blood everywhere, it looks like someone was massacred. Then I'll find a tiny spot on my roosters comb the size of a pencil tip.

I hate to answer a question with a bunch of questions, but we need some more info

Here's a pic of her bottom. We are not sure if the blood is coming from her or another chick. I haven't found any visible signs on the other chicks that would indicate an injury.

It's a little hard to see whats going on there, but it doesn't look like shes been picked at. If there was poop stuck there, it could be ammonia burn, vent gleet, or even just some dry, cracked skin. If you aren't noticing any yucky smells, vent gleet (a chickens version of yeast infection) could be ruled out.

I would just keep the area as clean as you can, maybe put on some pine tar or Blue Kote (just be careful putting that stuff around the vent, the pine tar would probably be the better option, but the BK will stay on longer) so the other chickens don't get curious about it and let it heal up

Thank you for the advice. I seperated her today after soaking & cleaning her up. I'm thinking it may be vent gleet. She does smell pretty bad. I gave her some yogurt too! I'll keep y'all updated on her progress.

I'm brand new to all of this, but have read a few things on prolapse and using preparation h cream to help it. I may be way off on this, but thought I'd mention it. Hopefully a seasoned owner can chime in on this?

Ellie(that's what I've named her) is already showing improvement! The red bump was not sticking out today & not as much white stuff caked in her feathers. I followed the treatment for vent gleet & it appears to be helping! I put her in our jet tub to soak today. She seemed to enjoy the warm water! She closed her eyes a few times!

Oh & the blood was not coming from her. I guess the other chicks are picking at each other in the mornings before I let them out. Although none appear to have any major battle wounds.
