Thanks... I was beginning to think that "Ava" might actually be a "Basil" instead... which is really, really sad.

Roosters are not allowed in the neighborhood and we have one other chick (silkie) which is really attached to this one (snuggles under him at night). I'm glad someone else thought "him" handsome because I sure do, too... his feathers are so glossy and colorful!

These are our first chickens ever. What is your opinion on the best time to let him go?

Should we try to find another pullet about the same age as our silkie first (so she's not lonely) and then give the rooster away?

do i see saddle feathers in the first pic? Those would indicate roo, correct?
