[No More Empty Nest]

I have two EEs in my brooder right now. Same age, same small hatchery source. One is feathering at the familiar rapid pace, the other has the same degree of delay that my Brahma pullet chick had two years ago. It's the first EE I've had with slow feathering so I was rather surprised by it. The two look funny together with one sprouting chest and back feathers and the other just now getting shoulders and tail. They're the same size and both active/healthy so I don't think there is anything else going on. This was several days ago but you can see the difference. As I recall, the Brahma wasn't fully feathered until at least 8 weeks.

I had a bantam cochin that took forever to get feathers. Plus she had a red comb and wattles very early. Everyone thought she was a cockerel, but she's laying eggs now so I'm pretty sure she's not, haha.

I already know that feathering speed is controlled by a number of factors and not necessarily related to gender. I'm actually one who tries to explain this when the YouTube video of Amberlinks being feather sexed gets posted for the umpteenth time claiming this is how to tell.

Mine are sexed pullets and there is no reason to doubt they're correct. The place I got them has been right on all but one so far over the years putting their average well above 90%.

She's a chipmunk and her patterning so far is very feminine. But, I always feel better once I can see the color of the chest feathers. It won't be long.

Oh my! I hope so!!!! All the white with black ones I have seen are gorgeous!!

There was someone here who used to say that all the b/w ones are males and then people would post pics of their b/w females. And yes, they can be quite spectacular!
