Easter Egger club!

got a question for any one... my 2 nd EE laid 1  egg 4 days ago and I'v not got anything from her again, you think I did something?? I've not changed any feed, they get out to free rang cause it has been warm enough that I'm not worrying about frost bite. She is young, so that's not it. no one picks on her.

Was this her first egg? It's not uncommon for their first eggs to be sporadic. One of my girls laid her first eggs for 7 days straight, then nothing for nine days.

I believe she was laying before I got her but I don't know if it was regular or not and she is young, this was her first egg with me. I'm just waiting ... what else can I do but wait????

I would be interested to see how that works for you. My flock seemed to slow down when I gave them too much people food treats. I give them people food treats once a week, and I have to jump out of the way. (Feeding frenzie) I have made up several different treats made from layer pellets, scratch, rabbit pellets, BOSS, and wild bird seed. Baked into muffins and mini bread loaves. This has increased production during the winter months and they seem to think they are treats....WIN/WIN!
I will post once in a while about if it seems to help or not but yesterday I got 14 again??? so I will keep going, maybe it has something to do with being warm when I give it to them ?
That is an interesting Ideal with the seed and such in muffins, never thought of something like that. I could never get my flock to eat anything in pellet form, they just flat refuse.

Sadly not much else you can do. It's sooo hard to wait though...
Just keep an eye on her. For the most part this is normal. But if she starts to look uncomfortable, sluggish, and or stops eating THEN there's a problem. It'd be a good idea to read up on being "egg bound".

Yeah waiting is about all you can do, considering she's young and it's the middle of the winter.
I know I had a scare with the whole eggbound thing a few weeks ago. At the time I had 4 young hens laying fairly regularly. Pretty much every day with one or two days off in the week. Then I noticed my Gold Sebright hadn't laid for 2 days which was totally unlike her. This didn't worry me too too much in itself because I know Sebrights aren't known for being reliable layers. But she kept going up and sitting in the nest box and making little putt putt noises. Then she'd get out and stare at the box for a while, then go back down into the run. Then later she'd be back up sitting in the nest box again, then back down in the run. This went on for like 2 more days. Then she just laid a normal egg and has been laying 4 to 6 a week since. So I don't know if she actually WAS slightly eggbound or if she just had a hiccup and physically wasn't ready to lay an egg but mentally and out of habit was thinking "ok I do this ever day. It's morning, it's time to go sit in the box and lay an egg" She truly did look puzzled the way she'd stand there looking at the nest box tilting her head and making quiet little putt putt noises.
I think I tend to read too much into things like this. But going eggbound is something that terrifies me because there's NOTHING I can do about it but just sit helplessly by and pray and wait. The thought of losing one of my girls this way...I just don't want to even think about it.

Anyway, keep us posted. I'm sure she'll be fine and start laying regularly for you once the weather warms up and the sun stays in the sky a little longer. This morning I was fully light by the time the kids should have been heading to school (If they didn't have a 2 hr delay again) And I could see to feed the chickens without much trouble by 6:30 unlike a few days ago when it was still murky dark and depressing. Brighter days are coming ^_^

I have a very stubborn layer. She was a rescue at 13 months old, she's now 18 mths. In the five months I've had her she has only laid one egg. I know when I got her she was finishing up a molt, and then it was winter, but this has just gotten silly! She was an only chicken and had never been around other hens, and I honestly think she doesn't lay b/c my girls stress her out. After many (many) attempts at integrating her, we bought another pullet to be her friend and made them a separate run and coop. That was almost two months ago, and still no eggs! I guess she will lay when she is ready, but any advice on starting her off would be appreciated!

I have lost a hen to that and it is very upsetting.
I cant wait till I can walk outside and sit watching my critters without freezing. Will be great...

Their spoiled like mine. I MADE mine eat pellet. No treats, scratch, or crumble till they gave in. It took 4-5 days till they got hungry enough to try it. Now they eat whatever I put in the feed bowl.
