pepper is about 18 weeks. Give or take a few days. I have others but next in line are 3 RIR 12 weeks, 1 EE about 8 weeks. She and my rock who is 6 weeks were purchased at the same time. We also have 2, 2 week old EE 's in the house. I want to get some goodies but also was thinking about a broody hen. As I am doing my research I am realizing none of my flock really go broody. I realize the chance is very slim. I have a 18 week rooster as well EE, he seems to be mixed with a game ? Not to sure. So I'm thinking incubator will be my best bet. Correct me if I'm wrong. I want eggs but want to hatch as well. Thank you!!That's a bit like asking what age a girl hits sexual maturity. It happens when it happens, as frustrating as that is.All of my pullets (of different breeds) were late laying (which I'm ok with, since that means they'll probably continue to lay later in life instead of burning out early). As for the nest box, just make one available. I noticed my girls would "practice" by going in and out on their own, no need to force it. Broodiness seems for the most part not to hit EE's too strongly or early, but there's always exceptions to that, especially since people like mixing different breeds in and that can have a strong impact.
This is my Martha. She's growing up so fast! So far I THINK she's showing female. Single pea row comb, no rusty patches, neutral and relatively consistent coloring. Her legs seem thick though and her neck feathering keeps freaking me out as the pin feathers come in a little pointy but then get broader as they develop. Any thoughts or guesses from the peanut gallery?
