OK, it's a lot easier to take pics 45 minutes after roosting! They were so much calmer.

A better side view of caramel, and his/her comb. Boy? Girl?

And the hyper cocoa, even after settling in for the night, looking for the peeping friends. Girl?

These two I got from the pullet bin. The other 3, Luna, Ambrosia, and Goldie came from a breeder who is letting me swap them out for her last 2 EE girls(she claims they are ameraucanas) , and a sex link. Goldie isn't pictured above cause there is no denying boy now. He was pictured in my first posting a few pages back if your real curious.
s, much calmer! That's when we pet all our flock. I'll cross my fingers for you . I'm not to familiar with the black and white . Sassy was yellow when we got him. Then turned black and white.

The first one boy the next 2 girls . Breast color says girl on them.

1 may be a pullet then just different coloring. You just never know with this breed. I got my Ameraucauna's from pullet bin but they were indeed EEs. Either way I don't care they are all cute and as long as I get eggs I'm fine. But the roosters are beautiful ! Are you going to keep one for your flock? They have many advantages. ! My husband loves our Roo they are good friends. If you do, keep the calm one! as I see you have children. I hear nasty stories. Ours is very very quite and calm but has jumped at my 7 yr old. Only once, we don't have to carry a stick around lol. In Sassy's defense Tristin runs around with his sword. So I would be threatened too. Let's see pics if your new girls.

I don't get the new ones until Monday, but I will be sure to post them. We have a roo already. My daughter got him for her 13th birthday a few weeks ago from a friend, and loves that too to death. She carries him around everywhere and takes pics of him. Its so funny. We don't need 4 more roos and 4 girls for sure. I'm happy to trade the 3 in.

His name is Roo Roo because that was all he crowed the first morning we had him. He came from a free range acre a friend of mine has, but she had 4 roosters this year and was rehoming them. I was happy to have an EE Roo to add to the girls and he was so shy at first. Now he is bold and loud and very pet friendly. He knows who has the treats. We let him free range outside the run and he roosts on top of the coop. He refuses to go inside. He has a panic attack every time we go near it while holding him. I think he likes the freedom. He wakes us up promptly at 5:30 every morning. It's so sweet. He talks a lot! The girls are quite so far.

We are waiting on 4 EE's 3 RIR who actually were laying in nesting box this morning:))) 1 welsummer. & 1 barred rock. Plus we have 3 pullets but that's a ways out. When it does happen I'll be sharing. What does your girl look like? Curious what color eggs we will get.

I am still trying to figure out who layed the egg! I will post a pic as soon as I figure it out! I have been like a detective all day today doing nothing but sit with binoculars and stare at the coop!!

My EE rooster just died due to sour crop

I was going to use him for breeding next year. I only have one other roo and I have 28 hens. He is very laid back too so i don't think he can handle all of them. How many hens can one roo handle to keep all of them fertile? I am so devastated.

I'm a few days behind because of the email notification issues BYC seems to be having but I wanted to say I'm sorry. I too had next year's breeeding rooster die, but he was protecting his hens. I managed to hatch out some eggs last weekend and I see some chicks that are his color so I'm hoping that means they are his chicks (and not just the ones from the previous roosters that I sold - good boys but getting too closely related to the rest of the flock). That left me unexpedcedly rooster-less and I scrambled for some new chicks hoping for a rooster. I think I'll have some cockerels, but I'm dissapointed because they are yellow legged and not as tight of a pea comb (I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to continue my blue laying flock).

Good luck finding a new rooster for your flock.

My EE rooster just died this morning. He wAs fine yesterday and earlier this morning. I came out to let them range. I got locked in coop and turned to see he was dead in corner. I have 11 hens. They are all searching for him. I don't understand ? He's was fed very well!!! No marks but a few of his bigger feathers. He was a very sweet rooster my husband held him every night. I could never replace him m! But I feel I need and want a rooster for the girls. How do I go about introducing a new one? Any one have information on this subject? Should I buy a pullet or a cockerel ? I feel bad just going and getting a new one. He's was so perfect. Plus I'm heart broken!
