Easter Egger club!

Are the hens Easter eggers?  Or are the eggs being sold as Easter eggers?

An EE hen could have a brown and a blue egg gene, so there is no guarantee she will pass the blue egg gene to her offspring.  However, if she was bred to an Ameraucana then the pullets would produce either green or blue eggs.

I sell my eggs as EE eggs because the rooster is a Crested Cream Legbar.  The hens lay brown eggs, but all the babies will get the blue gene from the rooster and will be Easter eggers.  Hope that makes sense!

I think so.....lol.....all the genetic stuff is difficult for me to retain...thnx....so if I bought eggs from you and they hatched into pullets they would lay blue eggs for sure?

When buying EEs there's a good chance they will lay blue/green eggs if hatched from colored eggs. It's best to get eggs from someone who breeds for colored eggs.

Quote: EEs lay green eggs. Sometimes you'll get lucky and get one that lays blue, but generally green is what you get. Of course there are all the shades inbetween. My hatchery EE lays a beautiful turquoise colored egg. I crossed her with an Ameraucana and will hopefully get eggs that are a little more blue.

If you are looking for blue eggs, you should purchase straight Ameraucanas or Araucanas. The color of the Legbar eggs is so light that I would recommend the other breeds first. The legbar eggs (in my experience) are larger though. I just like the former two breeds a lot better.

Thank you all. I bought two hens a couple of months ago. The lady told me they were Ameracaunas(sp?). From reading I thought they were EEs. One is kind of a partridge color with a beard and bit of a muff and lays an olive egg. The other is a very pretty girl but looks nothing like any of the Ameracaunas or EEs. She lays a light brown egg and sometimes it has very tiny pale lavender splotches.....I am sure most people would not even notice the spots. She lays an egg about every other day. The olive egger was laying an egg almost every day until she went broody. She hatched out three eggs (not hers) on Sunday. They are CUTE.

I am interested in getting a couple more for either a blue or green egg. I have one cuckoo marans and hope to get a darker egg than the ones I get now.

Hey there! I just joined the EE club with a baby I got on Saturday. She is adorable and looks like a tawny owl and keeps flying out if her brooder box to come play in my hair. :love
