Easter Egger club!

I have decided that I don't love EE'ers because they are extremely hard to sex early!! Mine has people stumped in the sexing tips and we keep having to wait a week. They are 8 weeks old we should be able to tell lol!! My Wyandotte I knew within 2 weeks old that one was a Roo. I guess that has to do with the mixed breed aspect? Also neither of mine have the neck tufts I see so often in EE'ers.

Then perhaps you would like my auto sexing EE project or auto sexing cream Legbars that lay blue eggs . Either can be sexed at hatch by color .

Yes! That's what I'm talking about. This whole waiting to know and buying 5 finding out later 2 may be Roos just annoys me because I am not interested in personally sending any of my unwanted roosters to the freezer camp. Lol

Do you hatch ? I sometimes offer eggs on the 24 hour auction site . I can also guide you through making your own sex links . Barred hens like barred rocks and a EE rooster without barring will give you sex links . They would lay green to light olive eggs . Males would have a white head spot at hatch and be barred . Females would not be barred or have the white head spot .

No I don't. The 5 chicks I currently have are the very first chickens I have ever owned so I'm very new to this. Not sure I am ready for all the genetics behind it.

EEs are way better than Legbars, Even if they are autosexing most of the time, it does not help the breed. Legbars are small birds so they are not dual purpose. You still have to do something with the cockerels you hatch out. Some legbar lines have very low fertility/hatch rates. They are also not as pretty at the Ameraucana/EE lines. Legbars do have a cool crest, which I am breeding into my line of EEs. My EE eggs aren't as big as the legbar eggs, but the color is deeper and the shell quality is much nicer. I'll take my EEs and Ameraucanas over legbars any day!

Dual purpose is not important to me but still having to do something with the cockerels I assume is an issue (hard to do) with them not being dual purpose? I know it's impossible to never hatch out Roos I mean it's a 50/50 chance it's one or the other. Lol

True but auto sexing allows you to rehome cockerels early .

These are some of my crosses of autosexing EE and Legbar . Cockerels in the last picture and pullets in the first . Small crests , beards and pea/single comb .
