Easter Egger club!

Hi Easter Egger folks!

I just got my first two EEs last week. I liked them so much that I went back today and got a third one. I am also on my third brooder of chicks for the year. I have found raising chicks to be addicting! And it seems like there is always room to squeeze in one (or two) more. So I came home with two today, the EE and a Buckeye.

Last week's EEs are Triscuit and Biscuit:

Triscuit has a lot of beard and muff.

She also has super long flowing down, like feathered hair. I almost wanted to name her Farrah Fawcett!

Biscuit is beardless:

(Biscuit is the lighter one.)

This week's EE is Weetabix, and the Buckeye is Gingersnap.

Weetabix seems to have some ear tufts going on:

But doesn't have much in the beard department.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they turn out. I think I'm going to have some nice variation.

I've been snuggling them (last week's) every day, and I think they might turn out friendlier than some of my previous chicks.

I did notice that a couple of my earlier chicks from this spring were just more interested and friendly to humans from the beginning, and all along. Even though I handled all the chicks in the brooder, those two never went through an unfriendly period. (They are Blue Splash Marans, if it makes a difference.) Their brooder mates didn't respond the way the first two did, so I think part of it is the temperament the chick is born with.

What cuties!

What hatchery seems to have a lot of pattern and wide variation in color in the Easter eggers. And less of the standard brown colors.

I picked up my 13 Cackle EEs today and I think they're a wonderful assortment of colors. 9 are light cream or pastel yellow with accents of either peach, apricot, silver, lavender, or blue. 1 is black with dark blue gray, 1 is chocolate with blue gray, 1 is lighter brown with peach and gray, 1 is brown and fawn. I don't know what colors they'll be as adults. On Cackle's website you can see a wide variety of EE colors. They even say they breed for a wide variety of color patterns.

Question: Has anyone ever noted what crosses produce which colors of EEs? Like, Wheaten Ameraucana roo over Barnevelder hens produces X? I think the darker girls I have may be from Black Copper Marans hens. And the silver, maybe Wyandottes? The lighter ones Barnevelders?
Was just curious if anyone ever went over this.

There is an Ameraucana projects thread. It might be discussed already, or you might be able to scare up an answer from someone who has worked on those breeds before. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/718027/ameraucana-projects-thread

There is also a Cream Legbar Hybrids thread, and an Olive Egger thread, where they talk about what they mix and match.

These new little EE babies (2 are Ws, 13 are EEs) don't seem as scared of me as my others did at this age.

Do you have any more pictures, I am going to order mine from cackle!

Lol So far I am failing as a chick photographer, darn it! Just before I click the shutter they're looking right into the camera and flapping their wings, etc, but as I click they all turn away and look boring. Lol I will definitely try again later today when I can take time to.capture their true adorableness.
