Easter Egger club!

Ours we have an Olive Egger rooster that we can't keep since we live in a neighborhood, but he hops up on your lap and today he was panting on my lap and my mom took him off since we didn't want him to get to hot. And he was mad at her the rest of the time that we were in the coop. And then after she pushed him off he wanted to jump right back up again.

At what age should they start to lay? My three girls are 19 weeks anx nothing yet... Although i am concerned since my 1 EE roo tried to mate with his sister, will that harm them? Also... When they mate if i decided to try and hatch any, will the offspring of brother & sister be... Umm, goofy?

There are no worries about 'inbreeding' chickens. Chickens can inbreed for several generations and it won't likely cause any serious harm. If they are from a hatchery, they are likely not closely related at all. My Easter Eggers where laying by about 22 weeks.

Good morning world! New chick hatched last night or this morning. Wiggles the rooster is the proud dad. "Martin" (named by my friend's 8-year old) may be the mama. This little one was the first to hatch. Another hatched right before I checked the coop today. Four more eggs to go! Surrogate mama is sitting patiently on the nest.

Chick #2 hatched, but didn't make it. It was alive when I took this pic, but two hours later it wasn't.

Here's chick #3. That was quick! There was just one pip mark two hours ago. Yeah!!! It's grey like it's mom.

I know for a fact that this is the mama of the grey one. She laid this blue/green egg the first day I gave her eggs on which to sit.

That's it for now. I won't be bugging her until later this afternoon after church. She's looking a little rough and having a bad "hair" day. Brooding and growling is hard work.

Mine are 20.5 weeks old and not laying yet. They fluff around in the coop shavings, go into a nest and sit, in and out of the nest...nothing yet. So anxious for green and /or blue eggs. We have a white leghorn and a Golden Comet that are over a year old, so white and brown eggs.

My EE's started between 19 & 20 wks. Since then they go back and forth sometimes laying daily. Sometimes on alternate days. One seems to want to go broody. She will sit on anyone's eggs she finds. She goes full on velociraptor if you reach in for eggs or if another girl threatens to enter her nest box. Unfortunately, as soon as treats are tossed out she runs for them. Maybe a lil bit young for hatching. She just isn't fully committed.

My first EE started laying at 38 weeks. She got attacked 5 weeks later. It was sad.
My second is 19 weeks. Her name is sugar. This is her.

If they are going into the nest boxes and practicing it won't be too much longer before they lay for you. I think it was a week or two after mine started doing that that they started laying.
