Easter Egger club!

Agreeded I had three leghorn of 6(?) do this about drove me bonkers! I'd remove one and the next would step up. Remove it,here we go again,,and so on. If it's possible in chicken world to be a hermaphrodite they are the ones. Took a year for every one to settle into what they where "gonna be" I won't ever buy them again, not once have they cooperated for me! I like to enjoy my chickens not feel so confussed& misinformed. Just my two cents.

I adore Leghorns since I grew up with huge flocks of Babcocks as a kid and my uncle also ran an egg ranch with Babcock Legs. They are dynamo layers. I decided to add a White Leg to my little backyard flock and then another Buff Leg. Within 3 yrs the White Leg went bonkers on the gentler chickens and the Buff Leg went totally cannibalistic after only 1 yr. It was disheartening to re-home those lovely girls but they really couldn't be mixed with our calmer timid breeds.

I'm glad you found a place for them
Guess in a nutshell looking back, maybe I shoulda waited on the leghorn breed till I had a little more experience with chickens. Nothing against the breed, I just like focusing my energy other places.

Yep, totally understand. We all love chickens but have to make the right choices to meet our personal requirements.

Hahaha. And also safe to say they LOVE blackberries.

I don't doubt you, the adults go ballistic over them, even my rooster who has up till now been terrified of me will actually approach to as close as 4 feet of me if I show up with any. He won't touch them until both of the hens have had theirs though.

Perhaps the whole berries are to big for the little ones? I'll try cutting a couple up before offering them tomorrow.

Yes, I would say Roo for sure. He has 3 comb development. I can say that the Easter Egger roo I have is very docile. He's 8 weeks and when I'm sitting outside will climb up in my lap (circle like a dog) and make himself comfortable. Below you can see his comb development, splashy/inconsistent color patterns, pointy tail feathers, and some of the redder feathers starting to come in.

That is typical coloring of a wheaten cockerel . They go through a lot of splotchy color changes . Likely some Wheaten Ameraucana in the bloodline .

Aww! He's a little eagle!
That's the first thing I thought; he does look like an eagle (especially in the first picture) you could name him "Uncle Sam"...

I have a question for you folks... I'm considering what I want to do should one of my girls go broody. I think I would love to have a pullet from Yzma (my avatar - who lays beautiful extra large green eggs 6-7 days in a row before taking a day off) and my new welsummer cockerel. Do you think it would be a good mix to sell extras of? I also have a couple different colored wyandottes but Yzma has such pretty eggs and the best temperament.
I think you should, and please let us know what you decide/post pics
