Easter Egger club!

Ummm is it just me or does the white chick remind anyone else of Beaky Buzzard?? Nice chicks still! No luck here hatching EES this year, try again in 17. Cochin bantams, quail and Giants hatched though.
Lol I see what u mean she's actually quite fluffy and hard to photograph. Thank you I hope you have luck hatching your babies it's not easy when they don't hatch. That's cool gotta love those guys quail are so cute and tiny as are bantams lol

Thank you!I was focused on filling in my big coop this year.next year I need to replace EES, some of my girls will be 3 yrs old in April.

Quail are even smaller, nicklesize eggs. Close to dove size when ready to process in around 8 weeks. But then they hatch, wow! Make bantams seemhuge!

OMG you guys... love all the pics! My two EEs should be dropping their first eggs any day!

Hey, I got a question... or a quandary... Do any of you guys have other birds plucking your EEs' muffs? I have 10 birds and only two are EEs. One in particular has had her little beard plucked half off. I've been feeding them lots of watermelon in this heat, and I know they get all sticky and messy with it... maybe the girls are pecking them because they can smell the watermelon on them? The funny thing is, they allow the other birds to do it, and almost act like they like it! It's just so weird!

Those EEs are such goofy birds. They've both been so skittish... not wanting to be caught or touched for months. But now that they're mature enough to lay.. they've gotten really mellow. And most of my older girls just crack me up with the "submission pose." They've been doing it for a few weeks now, whenever I go to pet them or try to pick them up, they stop, bend forward, flex their wings out, and swish the tail off to the side, like they're ready for the rooster! It's hilarious! In fact this morning, Gertie, one of the EEs jumped upon my leg when I was sitting with my younger GLW who sits on me all the time, and she immediately went into the submission pose. So I pet her, and then she does the fluffing all the way up to the hackles. She actually sat with me for over a minute, letting me pet her and talk to her. It was so cool, especially after months of her running away from me!

Some of my older girls (21-22 weeks) started doing that "submission pose" last week, and I've gotten an egg every day for three days in a row now. The wait is unbearable but it will be worth it!

I haven't had any problems with other chickens plucking beard/muffs out, but lately one of my 4 week old Welsummer chicks decided that the Polish chicks would look better without their crests. The poor babies are bald. I read that "blue-kote" should stop them from picking at raw spots, so I ordered some on ebay for about $5

Hope you get some eggs soon!

Gorgeous eggs! Did the blue one come from an EE? Mine only lays really light Mint eggs.

Light mint sounds very pretty. I wonder if any of mine will lay that color.
This is the pullet who lade the blue (with a hint of green) egg. We are so proud of her. The one who laid the green egg is a cross between a blue Marans and a blue/splash Ameraucana. Because of the mix I was expecting something a bit darker, so you can imaging my surprise when the green egg was laid. LOL
