So these are my babies. They all came from the same "batch". It's funny because after being with the other hens of the same age for about 2 months now they still stick together! They are not laying yet and I was wondering if you have any hens that look like them and what their eggs look like. I know it all depends on genetics but who can blame me for my excitement! lol. The pictures are kind of bad because they were taken first thing this morning being let out of the coop so food and outside air is absolutely on the brain. Thank you in advance! :) PS the red stuff is chili powder to keep the rodents and pests away. DJ in the back, Gully in the front DJ in the front, Chirp in the back DJ in the front, Chirp in the back Chirp Chirp Chirp and my Australorp(ish) Dorothy DJ in the back, Gully in the front Gully Chirp in the front, Gully in the back DJ
What beauties! DJ's pattern is quite unique and I love Chirp's color!

I'd fancy one of those tail feathers for my bike helmet!

The babies are doing fine, in fact they are growing faster than I can build!

Sorry I skipped a week, they aren't changing as fast. They're almost fully feathered and getting a bit big for the bin, but I'm not done with the new coop yet, so I might have to put them into the dog cages with the rest of the flock temporarily. The coop is designed so i can partition off specific brooding areas, so this should be the last time I (or they) will have to deal with sleeping in a tub!

Still twins, even more so at 6!

Here she is today. Is she getting whiter?

She is definitely turning out to be the friendliest / least flighty of the bunch. Most flighty is one of the twins, although she is calm enough once 'caught'. I guess that's how I will be telling them apart.

Is this normal for Cuckoos?

She is starting to get some white, but it still looks as if she is going to be very much on the dark side.

Of my April flock there have been no more casualties, however I'm starting to get some rooster challenges, from Chaz now!

He hasn't bothered me while I'm inside the pen yet, but he has made some lunges towards me while I was outside working on the new coop.

I'm beginning to think that maybe one bad rooster can pass on their bad habits, like a contagious disease. If he does go sour he will be the fourth in a row. And he's an EE, which are reputed to be a gentle, people friendly breed.
