Easter Egger club!

Here's my two gals.

The lovely bearded lady in the back came from local Cackleberry Coop. Hasn't started laying yet but I sense it will be very soon. The splash gal in the front was hatched from some pure BBS Ameraucana eggs purchased here on BYC. She lays a perfectly sky blue egg. Just wish she had a beard. Hers is more of a five o' clock shadow. The large black hen is an OE.

I have a beautiful Splash legbar that after 3 months has just started laying everyday, she is right at a pound, and I cannot believe how easily and quietly she lays that egg, up in the box, 5 mins. later, out she comes.

I ndon't have any EE's right now I only ever had 1 and she died of old age.

I have been looking for EE's for a year now can't find any in this area. but keep looking have some chicks ordered the 18th but want adults. I'm not a patient person... not having any luck. My old girl was very sweet, she would take care of any baby on the place, (chicks) and she would dear ANYONE to mess with them.

got a Lt. Brahma and it tried to kick Myrtle" butt ( my ee that passed) we called her Big Moma cause she was BIG!! but big Moma dint get the job done and when Myrtle got old and couldn't fend for herself any more... Big Moma stuck by her side till the day she died and stayed with her till I put her in the ground.... and people say chickens don't have feelings.... Big Moma was a victim of a weasel attack, along with 10 of my other hens, at the same time.

I think that chickens DO have feelings. I had 3 hens, when my 2 RSL passes away, the remaing hen just moped around. She did not venture far from the pen, cooped up early in the day and had little interest in what went on around her. I then brought home a RIR and EE pullet and Smoke perked right up. She let the new girls know who was lead hen and then showed them around the property.

I'm with you I totally believe it. Right now I have a blue hen ( breed unknown) that has taken 5 comet pullets under her wing so to speak. They eat near one another and sleep together. Blue don't lay she never has for me but when the one pullet goes in to lay Blue will sit next too her and wait... it's funny to watch the two of them get in the same box.wondering how that will work when the pullet gets bigger???Guess I will see
