Easter Egger club!

Oh ok thanks. Our local feed store is getting its first spring shipment of chicks next Friday and they include ameracaunas. My mom wants blue and green eggs, so she said I could get a couple. I just wasn't sure on that exactly. thanks again!

Is there anyway to estimate the age of these two hen Easter eggers?

SwedishDude, odds are those "ameracaunas" are easter eggers. Ameracaunas came from thr same base stock as the EE (a South American blue egg layer) but the Ameracauna was further defined as a set of colors and body type. Basically, you can only get them from breeders. Now, an EE isn't necessarily inferior or a "mutt". There are some breeders that have bred EEs eblnough so the same type is always produced with predictable hatch results. However, the blue egg gene is dominant, so a lot of people will cross breed and the resulting offspring can still carry the blue egg gene, so would still be called an EE.

I would say less than 1 year old as they look like my EEs who were born in May. They whiskers look full and seem to be there beginning about 6-8 months. Are they laying? Are their combs red?

I've only had them for a week and a half so I guess they haven't adjusted yet to the move. So no eggs yet. I've also been doing some construction in my yard on their new coop. I suppose the noise could effect egg laying because of stress. Not sure how red they are supposed to be but here is a closer picture.

I guess it just throws me off, because they look like sumo wrestlers beside my white leghorns, haha. But I know leghorns are naturally small hens.
