Hmm. Still no egg from her. My other hen (oegb) lays later in the day, so I was wondering if she might do the same. I noticed she is opening and closing her vent, but she's not straining or holding herself awkwardly and there's definitely no sign of prolapse, and she if eating and drinking fine, but I haven't seen her pass anything the couple times I've been out to check on her today. Then again, I don't exactly stand and wait for my chickens to pass anything either. Thoughts? Is there any reason for a hen to "flex" her vent?

In regard to the vent flexing - my 26 week old pullet did that when she started being at Point Of Lay. For a week I kept inspecting and worrying she was having trouble because of that flexing. I think it might be just getting ready for fertilizing and egg laying. She laid an egg yesterday and I haven't noticed her doing that since.
Does your new hen squat when the rooster approaches? Mine squats when I reach out to pet her, but I raised her from a chick, so she isn't afraid of me.

So excited! My 27 week old laid for the first time today, and her egg is a gorgeous sky blue <3

Yes it is! We have several green/ blue layers, but she's our first of this bright blue. I squeeled in delight when I got it out of the nest box. You would have thought I was 12. LOL
Thank you! I was told she is already laying, but then again I was also told they were Ameraucanas... I haven't noticed her squatting around Bourbon, and they're not hand tame, so they tend to stay away from us. I don't think she's egg bound, but I just found the "flexing" a little odd. I am worried that she just might not be showing any symptoms, so I'm going to check her again tomorrow, because I'd hate to lose a hen that I already like quite a bit to something I could have fixed.
Then again, maybe she's just practicing her Kegel exercises?

Bought 4 EE's from the pullet bin at our local feed store. There are two that look like they might be cockerels.
